guacamole finalMy mom was born and raised in California, which apparently means she speaks avocado. She makes the best guacamole. I make it like hers and it’s never quite the same. But here’s her recipe:

Serves 4-6

2 Hass avocados, firm but with some give to the touch
1/4 cup minced onion
1 large clove garlic, minced
1 roma tomato, diced
2 Tablespoons finely chopped herbs (preferably cilantro)
1/4 green bell or jalapeno, minced
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1 Tablespoon sour cream
1 teaspoon lime juice

Cut the avocados in half, remove pit, and scoop flesh from skins. Lightly mash or cut with two butter knives until chunky. Mix in remaining ingredients and serve with chips or cut veggies.
