Food Lover’s Cleanse Diary Day 3

0105 lea rachelHow I feel: A really interesting mix of sleepy and energetic at the same time. Dan says I’m already starting to look healthier and slimmer.

Time in kitchen: 45 min.

Most interesting thing eaten: Chicken tangerine cabbage salad. I love to order them from restaurants but have never tried making it at home. Plus it has that sesame miso dressing on it that I’m head over heels in love with.

Total Weight Watchers Points: 35 (that’s over my daily limit but I’m good with it because I want to EAT), plus wine

Menu in review:

Breakfast: Two-Egg Omelet with Red Pepper–Walnut Spread. 7 Weight Watchers points.

omeletBy this morning I was really needed some protein, due in part to enjoying *some* wine with dinner last night. So this simple omelet with that crazy delicious red pepper spread hit the spot. It also fueled me quite well through a morning workout at the gym (what?!?!). By lunch though I was a little light-headed, possibly due to a combination of waking up at 5am, working out for the first time in forever, and continuing to eat far less than I’ve been eating recently.

Lunch: Chicken, Cabbage, and Tangerine Salad. 10 Weight Watchers points.

chicken cabbage saladSo after all of that what I was really craving was…a salad. No, I wasn’t. I wanted mac and cheese. Or a grilled cheese. Or fondue. Basically any combination of cheese and a white bread product would have hit the spot. To my surprise, the Asian flavored salad with chicken was remarkably satisfying and filling. Even Dan commented how satisfying it was. Something to remind myself post-cleanse–that the healthy option will probably satisfy me just as much as the unhealthy option.

Dinner:Hanger Steak with Orange-Oregano Chimichurri Warm Escarole Salad with Anchovies and Mustard Seed Vinaigrette Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Garlic and Chili. 17 Weight Watchers points.

steak and potatoesAnd thankfully there is STEAK on this cleanse! If I can’t have cheese and pasta, steak and potatoes is a close second. We had a friend over for dinner and it was a great hearty meal to entertain with (as much as I love things like lentils and rice, I probably wouldn’t serve to guests on a Saturday night). I used a London broil as I couldn’t find hangar steak cut it into individual portions. It worked out great. Our guest loved it, the kids loved it, and it paired brilliantly with wine.

Dessert:Citrus Salad on Mango Coulis with Cacao Nibs and Toasted Almonds. 1 Weight Watchers point.

citrus saladWow what an elegant dessert AND I made it ahead. This is going in the rotation for sure. I didn’t buy any cacao nibs (couldn’t find them at Whole Foods) so just shaved dark chocolate on the top. Heaven.

And friends and kids had an amazing time!

    Looks great! I am doing the cleanse as well and found the cacao nibs in the superfoods section- near the grind-your-own almond butter and nut mixes. Definitely worth the purchase, IMO. Good luck with the rest of the cleanse!
